The Centre for Human Resources for Health Research and Policy has the task to translating health workforce research into policy development and implementation. The aim of the coordination action for the Center for Human Resources for Health Research and Policy is to adopt the role as coordinating centre on nursing and midwifery health workforce. This is a challenging task as health workforce is becoming one of the first priorities for the future of healthcare. Without health professionals, there is no health system. A study in 32 OECD countries about health workforce concerning doctors and nurses in 2030 resulted in a shortage of nearly 400,000 doctors (-9%) and 2,5 million nurses (-23%) (Scheffler & Arnold, 2019). As a Center for Human Resources for Health Research and Policy, our role is to identify the evidence in the four domains of education, jobs, leadership and service delivery and to translate it into policy and action. The focus is mainly on nursing and midwifery, but also on physicians and other health professionals.
