About the International Coordination-Action (IC-Action) 2024

International Coordination Activity (ICA) Funding from Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek/Flanders Research Foundation (FWO) has been obtained from 2023 until 2026. As a Center for Human Resources for Health Research and Policy, the focus is to identify the evidence in the domain of education, jobs, leadership and service delivery and to translate it into policy and action. The focus is primarily on nursing and midwifery, but also on physicians and other health professionals.

The objectives of the IC-Action are:

  • To gather, integrate, analyse available databases (e.g. OECD, Eurostat, WHO National Health Workforce Accounts (NHWA)) in order to identify knowledge gaps in various relevant areas are the number of educated professionals, deployment of professionals such as hospital, care for the elderly, mental health, primary care, public health and to identify quantitative and qualitative shortages, recruitment and retention rates etc…
  • To gather and disseminate health workforce policy documents to share best practices.
  • To coordinate the development of new knowledge and evidence by synthesizing the available research and best practices and its impact on job and patient outcomes.
  • To offer a platform for dissemination of the available evidence through the website and organisation of webinars, policy briefs, policy dialogues and offering an evaluation framework for benchmarking the status of nursing and midwifery health workforce in the different member states
  • By doing all this, to accelerate policy decision and increase the likehood of evidence-informed policy adoption.
